Mission Statement:

The mission of the Board of Health is to be an advocate for the health of the public. This mission is accomplished through the provision of appropriate services and the enforcement of applicable codes in an effort to maintain the health, safety and comfort of all residents.

What is the Board of Health?

A body of lay people appointed by elected officials of the municipality to formulate policy regarding public health under which the Health Department operates.

What is the Health Department?

A contracted body of professionals who do the actual work of protecting the public health through the Health Officer, Educators, Physicians, Public Health Nurses and Registered Environmental Inspectors.

What does the Board of Health do?

Meets established standards set forth by the State regarding public and environmental health.

When to notify the Health Department?

Any problems or questions related to public or environmental issues, please don't hesitate to call.

1st Wednesday of each month (no July/August) at 4:15 p.m. in Health Department.

Available Services:

Personal Health Services: Blood Pressure and Counseling 2nd & 4th Thursday 9-11 a.m. (unless otherwise noted on schedule) at Borough Hall and first Thursday of each month at the Senior Center 10:30 to 12:00 noon.

Child Health Conference: By appointment only, immunizations & Well Child Care for uninsured or underinsured infants and children.

Cancer Detection Services for Women: Bergen Regional Out-Patient Department cervical cancer testing, mammography and colorectal screening for uninsured women. Call 201-634-2660 for appointment.

Public & Environmental Health Services: Inspections and Complaints.

Poison Information & Hotline: 1-800-222-1222

Animal Control: All dogs and cats must be licensed and vaccinated against rabies. Dogs must be on a leash. Pooper Scooper law is enforced, please be a good neighbor. Dog or animal bites must be immediately reported to the police by person bitten or by doctor. Free Rabies Clinic held 2nd Saturday of February from 10 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at DPW building. Snow date to be announced as needed.

Vital Statistics: Marriage & Civil Union licenses (by appointment only), certified copies of births, deaths, marriages, civil unions and domestic partnership (proper ID and proof of relationship required).
