| MAYOR’S MESSAGE |
|
Our budget was passed, tax bills went out, monies are starting to come in and our economy is being choked in all different directions. Your council members have worked very hard on making sure all your public safety needs were being addressed. Unfortunately along with that comes tax increases due to reduced revenues by state aid and increases in all contracts (salaries, garbage, recycling, water, gas, electric etc.). Towns, schools, counties and the state all ask for your financial support and you give it. Our local spending went up by only 2.19%. As always we are looking at many projects, such as flood mitigation, roads, sewers, curbs, disability compliance through many grant opportunities. Many of these we are doing through cooperating with the county and other municipalities. We are sharing personnel with other municipalities. We are reviewing all budget requests and determining if they are truly needed for this year or can they be put off until next year. Believe me, next year will be another tough year. We have very understanding and cooperative department heads to insure that monies asked for are for the necessities in operating and in capital projects. As always, you, the voters of New Milford have elected us to watch over the finances of the borough and provide you with the required services that you expect and deserve. We have done just that. Not without difficulty but with hard work and dedication. It is no longer a simple business. It is a complex business offering many facets of health programs, public works projects, public safety and administrative services. We answer to our 16,400 resident population and our over 5,000 registered voters. You are our Board of Directors. You come to our meetings with complaints, compliments and concerns and we address them all in a timely fashion. We never lose sight that our role as Mayor and Council are to serve your needs and wants. Please remember that schools are opening in a couple of weeks. Please be careful of our children while driving. Please pay attention to our roads and don’t talk on your cell without a hands-free attachment. Speed limits are changing for traffic safety and traffic calming. Please be alert to your speed. Our children are the future and we must protect them from harm. I remain, Frank Frank DeBari, Mayor New Milford Borough ***DISCLAIMER***Please be advised, the Mayor and Council do not endorse the Town Planner Calendar, therefore the information provided within should not be relied upon.
