NMPD Achieves Accreditation
Chief Police Brian T. Clancy is proud to announce that the New Milford Police Department has achieved Police Agency Accreditation through the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police Law Enforcement Accreditation Program (NJSACOP LEAP) on March 11, 2021.
Accreditation is a highly prized recognition of law enforcement professional excellence. It requires agencies to comply with best practice standards in five basic areas: administration, personnel, operations, investigation and arrestees. To receive accreditation status, The NMPD was required to meet or exceed the NJSACOP LEAP standards that reflect these professional best practices in policing.
Accreditation results in greater accountability within the agency, reduced risk and liability exposure, stronger defense against civil lawsuits, increased community advocacy, and more confidence in the agency’s ability to operate efficiently and respond to community needs. Chief Clancy made accrediting the New Milford Police Department a priority upon first being promoted to Chief in May of 2019.
